“Dear Me…”

It’s safe to say that the 2020 election was a stressful time for the nation. While collaborating with the immigrant youth in I Learn America’s storytelling workshops, it was evident that everyone was worn down by the constant bad news filling their feeds.

The programs’ director and I wanted to make a message of hope, a message that reflected the community support our storytellers shared despite living in different parts of the country. One weekend, we got together with five students on Zoom and asked them:

If you could write a letter to yourself at this moment, what would you say?

I took this recording, created titles to match the ILA brand, and created the following video that truly gave me and many others in the program a sense of peace. We shared this compilation and a series of individual videos on social media.
